Belarusian senator takes part in meeting of CSTO PA standing commission in St. Petersburg

MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic, member of the Standing Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Sergei Rachkov took part in a meeting of the CSTO PA standing commission in St. Petersburg, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of the Belarusian Parliament.
The MPs discussed the results of Tajikistan’s chairmanship in the CSTO in 2021, the September session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, the situation in the CSTO area of responsibility, measures to counter challenges and threats to collective security, the participation of CSTO PA observers in international monitoring of the elections to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russia. The MPs also reviewed the results of the coordination meeting of the heads of parliamentary delegations of the CSTO member states to the OSCE PA and the work of the parliamentary delegations of the CSTO countries in the annual OSCE PA 29th summer session and approved the measures to bolster the coordination of the activities of delegations to the OSCE PA.
Sergei Rachkov briefed the commission on the address of Belarusian MPs and members of the Council of the Republic to the international community in connection with the situation around Belarus. “I call on the members of the CSTO PA to join their efforts in countering the illegal actions of the countries that are trying to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states and to firmly uphold the principles and provisions enshrined in the United States Charter,” the senator stressed.
Sergei Rachkov also met with CSTO PA Executive Secretary Sergei Pospelov to discuss the interaction between the Belarusian delegation and the CSTO PA.
