Sowing of winter crops in Belarus nearly 90% complete

MINSK, 6 October (BelTA) – As of the morning of 6 October, winter crops were sown on the area of 1.306 million hectares, which is 89.7% of the target area (1,456,100 hectares), BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

The regional breakdown of the sowing progress is as follows: Brest Oblast (sowing complete), Minsk Oblast (313,200 hectares or 91%), Vitebsk Oblast (194,600 hectares or 84.2%), Grodno Oblast (182,800 hectares or 92.8%), Gomel Oblast (180,600 hectares or 75.8%), and Mogilev Oblast (200,000 hectares or 95%).

Grain and leguminous crops (including corn) have been harvested from 2.14 million hectares (90.7% of the target area). Some 6.58 million tonnes of grain have been threshed. Minsk Oblast is leading with more than 1.6 million tonnes threshed. It is followed by Brest Oblast – more than 1.2 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast – more than 1.1 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 868,500 tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 831,700 tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 788,900 tonnes.
