MINSK, 5 October (BelTA) – Pakistan is interested in intensifying economic cooperation with Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Pakistan to Belarus Sajjad Haider Khan said at the opening of the fifth session of the Belarus-Pakistan Business Council, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus and Pakistan maintain very close contacts, especially in trade, investment and manufacturing. Today we have gathered here to give these contacts an additional boost. The main goal for Pakistan is to promote economic cooperation, we do not harbor any geopolitical ambitions, but are only interested in economic ties,” the diplomat emphasized.
According to him, the meeting brought together representatives of a number of economic sectors of Pakistan, including manufacturing, oil production, pharmaceutical industry, agriculture. “These are the most promising avenues of cooperation with Belarus. Agricultural cooperation is at a very good level. Belarusian tractors are very popular in Pakistan. Last year, about 300 Belarusian farm machines (tractors, combine harvesters, etc.) were sold to Pakistan, and we hope that this year their number will reach 3,000,” the ambassador said.
Chairman of the Pakistan-Belarus Business Council Shahzad Sabir doubled down on it saying that Belarus and Pakistan need to ramp up mutually beneficial cooperation in order to grow bilateral trade. “We have everything in place to increase trade. We are strongly determined to do it, we expect to build new contacts here, we plan to visit enterprises, we are interested in this cooperation,” he said.
