MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – Another migrant in a poor health condition was found at the Belarus-Poland border: a criminal case was launched, BelTA learned from the Department of Information and Public Relations of the Investigative Committee of Belarus.
The police received a report about a 25-year-old citizen of Egypt found in a forested area near the Belarus-Poland border. The man was lying on the ground unconscious. After receiving first aid, he was taken to an intensive care unit.
Having regained consciousness, the man told an investigator that he and his friends were detained in the territory of Poland by people in uniform and expelled to the territory of Belarus with the use of force. He vaguely remembers what happened, because he felt bad and asked the uniformed men to call doctors, but they refused to do it, and after that he lost consciousness.
As part of the criminal case, the migrant’s attending physician was interrogated. According to the doctor, the man was taken to hospital in a serious condition with obvious signs of hypothermia, which threatened his life and health. Had he been taken to hospital at least an hour later, he could have died.
Investigators and representatives of the Grodno Oblast Department of the State Forensic Examination Committee examined the scene, interrogated the foreigner and witnesses. A forensic medical examination was ordered to establish the severity of his health condition. There are plans to send a request for legal assistance to the respective authorities of Poland.
The Grodno Interdistrict Department of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 159 (failure to give assistance to persons in mortal danger) of the Criminal Code of Belarus. The investigation is underway.
