Belarus’ COVID-19 latest: 2,073 new cases, 1,903 recoveries

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge told the STV TV channel on 17 October that he believed that the pandemic would be over in 2022, BelTA has learned.

“I am an optimist, I believe that next year the pandemic will subside, but, of course, the coronavirus will remain and we might have to live with it. But you know, it’s like the flu. There are flu vaccines. Every year new strains emerge but people get vaccinated – and that is okay. It is important to learn our lessons so that the pandemic will not break out again,” Hans Kluge said.

He noted that healthcare should play a primary role in every country. “No economy, security, or peace are possible without good healthcare and good health. We need to invest in healthcare,” he added.

“The World Health Organization can say only one thing to all healthcare workers and first responders in Belarus – a thousand thanks,” Hans Kluge added.
