Presidential Sports Club vows all possible support to Belarus’ Special Olympics Committee
MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – The Presidential Sports Club of Belarus is always ready to support the Belarusian Special Olympics Committee under the aegis of which many events are held to develop inclusive approach in sport and healthy lifestyle in Belarus, head of the organization Dmitry Lukashenko said as he visited a national football tournament in Ulla with the participation of women’s teams that train under the Special Olympics system, BelTA has learned.
“This is not the first joint project of the Presidential Sports Club with the Belarusian Special Olympics Committee. Many important events are held under the auspices of this organization. That is why our club is always glad to lend a helping hand. We are mulling over to sign a bilateral memorandum of cooperation in the near future,” he said.
The national football tournament with the participation of women’s Special Olympics teams in Ulla, Beshenkovichi District, Vitebsk Oblast, celebrated the birthday of founder of the Special Olympics movement Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
A center for professional and social rehabilitation of children with special needs was opened in the Lev Dovator Lyceum in Ulla in 2010. For many years students of the center have been representing Belarus in international Special Olympics competitions. Seven teams take part in the competitions. The Presidential Sports Club has supplied the center with a variety of equipment and inventory to improve the lyceum’s sports facilities.
The Belarusian Special Olympics Committee conducts large-scale work on social rehabilitation of people with special needs through sports. Every year the association holds regional and nationwide competitions in football, basketball, table tennis, swimming, athletics and other special Olympic sports. The association also holds training and qualifying competitions to prepare the national team of the Republic of Belarus for the European and international Special Olympics Games.
