Lukashenko to meet with WHO Regional Committee for Europe Hans Kluge

MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko will meet with WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge on 14 October, BelTA informs.

In the past years the Belarusian healthcare industry has strengthened its positions in the international medical community thanks to the achievements in various fields of medicine, the results of high-technology medical interventions in transplantation, cardiovascular surgery, traumatology, neurological surgery, ophthalmology, oncology and oncohematology, investment projects in the pharmaceutical industry, and promotion of Belarusian medications on the market.

Belarus is one of the world leaders in healthcare. The country is in the top ten countries in terms of bed availability (1,100 hospital beds per 100,000 people), number of doctors (579 doctors per100,000 people) and the number of paramedics (1,320 per100,000 people). Besides, Belarus has one of the lowest maternal and child mortality in the world. Belarus is one of the top 25 countries in the WHO’s UHC index of service coverage index (76 points out of 100).

Every year 150,000 foreigners from more than 100 countries arrive in Belarus for medical treatment. In spite of the difficult epidemiological situation in neighboring countries, the work to increase the export medical services has been continued.

In view of the existing COVID-19 situation in Belarus and neighboring countries, the interagency taskforce at the Council of Ministers has making decisions on the introduction of additional measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 and the ensure the sustainable operation of the economy and the social sector of the country. Belarus continues the vaccination of the population and has approved a corresponding national action plan.
