MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) – Kyrgyzstan has suggested sending humanitarian aid to Afghanistan under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov said at the online meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council on 15 October, BelTA has learned.

The president of Kyrgyzstan expressed concern about the current situation in Afghanistan and urged to provide assistance to this state. “This will contribute to progress toward stability in the country,” Sadyr Japarov is sure.

“The situation in the world is changing rapidly. This prompts countries to consolidate efforts to timely respond to emerging challenges and threats. Such destabilizing factors as international terrorism, extremism, illegal migration and trans-boundary crime, as well as further worsening of the social and economic situation, and food crisis can lead to a real humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan,” the president of Kyrgyzstan said.

“This, in turn, can trigger a civil war in this country, which will cause tension and destabilize the situation in Central Asia and the Middle East. In this regard, I want to appeal to the entire international community and call for joint action to neutralize these challenges and threats and provide comprehensive support to the multi-ethnic people of Afghanistan,” Sadyr Japarov said.

He drew attention to the fact that the CIS is designed to be a significant contributor to regional stability. “In this regard, Kyrgyzstan proposes to consider a possibility of sending humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan under the auspices of the CIS,” the president of Kyrgyzstan added.

In his opinion, this move will help strengthen the international standing of the CIS and will contribute to the restoration of stability in this country.
