Isachenko: Belarus expects UN to condemn brazen interference in its internal affairs
MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) – Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic, National Coordinator for the Sustainable Development Goals Anatoly Isachenko delivered welcoming remarks at the opening of the regional forum on sustainable development of Gomel Oblast on 15 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of Belarusian Parliament.
The vice speaker drew attention to the ongoing attempts to put an unprecedented external pressure on Belarus. He also stressed that such steps undertaken by a number of states undermine the prospects for achieving the SDGs not only by the Republic of Belarus.
“In these circumstances, we, being one of the founding members of the United Nation, expect this influential international organization to condemn the brazen interference in the internal affairs of an independent and peace-loving state. However, we have to state that representatives of the UN system working in our country were also involved in these negative processes,” Anatoly Isachenko said.
In his words, such actions are unacceptable and dangerous. “They destroy the existing system of the world order and take away the prospects of living in security and harmony for millions of people,” said the deputy chairman of the Council of the Republic.
The vice speaker stressed that despite the external challenges, the work to create comfortable living conditions for citizens remains the number one priority. According to Anatoly Isachenko, despite difficult economic and political conditions Belarus has been able to develop a national model that protects ordinary people, who are the main asset of the state.
Belarusian regions come to the fore in the context of sustainable development. Anatoly Isachenko noted that every Belarusian, regardless of the place of residence, should have comfortable living and working conditions, a developed social infrastructure, and also opportunities for spiritual and creative growth.
“Today, we are guiding each region to work more actively on a regional strategy for sustainable development through 2035. The document is a so-called roadmap that enables us to adjust the SDGs to a specific region,” Anatoly Isachenko said.
