MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) – Belarusian consumer societies should take into account modern trends in demand and supply, and do want they can do best, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he spoke at the general meeting of the Belarusian National Union of Consumer Societies Belkoopsoyuz on 8 October, BelTA informs.

He recalled what he ate when he was a child, including simple bread with sugar. “We had very simple food. It was very good and healthy. Maybe, it looked differently than the food in the West. When the Soviet Union collapsed, our people wanted to eat only that western food. This is normal, in my opinion. They tried that food. Go to any restaurant, and you will see unimaginable dishes there. Their food is a masterpiece. But people want simpler dishes, like our draniki. A period in life has begun. It’s like a pendulum swinging back and forth. You cannot miss this moment,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“All these potato pancakes, pickles, salo, etc. No one cooks them better. So do it. Even rich people in Minsk will be happy to them from you,” the Belarusian leader said.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, may diplomats buy foodstuffs at farm markets. “Use the opportunity. If you do your best, I will always support you,” the head of state assured.

He also guaranteed support if someone wants to develop small enterprises in any corner of Belarus, including in Minsk. “We will definitely give you these places. We will also help you set up these facilities. We want you to be competitive with Minsk businessmen,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also praised good quality of products which re made in regions. “Probably, I, the president, have already tried all kinds of food in various corners of the world. But I went I visited Svisloch [the head of state visited a bakery in Svisloch during his working trip], I ate the best bread there. Please stop sending baskets of this bread to me. Of course, I gave to people who work with me, ordinary people. They were very happy and surprised that such bread is still made in Belarus. You know how to do it.”

The president urged Belkoopsoyuz to find ways to promote their products, for example, by setting up large trade facilities. He recalled the decision to allow setting up such stores in Minsk. “I see such shops when I drive along the central avenue. But why don’t you move further?” Aleksandr Lukashenko wondered.

It is important to see new prospects and set up small in-demand business in other areas.

“Please do it. Do not ask for cheap loans. We will always help you if we see that you are doing your best and looking for new ideas. Time has changed,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
