Belarus invites Georgia to cooperate in peat industry

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) – Belarus has invited Georgia to cooperate in the peat industry, BelTA learned from the press service of the Energy Ministry.

Promising areas of partnership were discussed at a meeting of Director General of the state enterprise Beltopgaz Aleksei Kushnarenko and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Belarus Valeri Kvaratskhelia. Aleksei Kushnarenko spoke about peat uses in Belarus, including in the cement industry and boiler houses of housing and utilities services.

Belarus ranks fourth in the world in terms of peat production, said Aleksei Kushnarenko. Thanks to the modernization of the industry, Belarusian enterprises have ramped up their production potential. The country manufactures the entire line-up of machines and equipment to extract and process peat. Work is underway to refresh the range of peat products which are exported to more than 20 countries.

“Peat plants have been tirelessly working to tap into new markets. The Georgian market is of interest to Belarus. We can consider various options for cooperation: from the exchange of experience in the peat sector to the export of peat products and equipment for peat extraction to Georgia,” the press service said.
