Belarus’ border service: Poland again forces refugees out of its territory

MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) – Poland again forced refugees out of its territory, BelTA learned from the State Border Committee of Belarus.

“On 10 October, Polish border guards brought a group of refugees to the Polish-Belarusian border by road transport. They partially dismantled the fence and, using physical force, pushed the refugees out into the Belarusian territory. Among the refugees were children and women who required medical attention. Despite requests for asylum in Poland and medical assistance to women and children, Polish law enforcement officers put the fence back up and indifferently watched what was happening. It has become traditional for Poland to ignore refugee requests for asylum and violate the European Convention on Human Rights.

The committee added: “Poland has been constantly violating European human rights laws and ignoring the requests of refugees, which makes them take active actions. For example, there was a situation on another section of the Polish-Belarusian border. Over the lack of reaction of Polish border guards to the repeated requests for protection, desperate people attempted to force their way into Poland, despite the presence of a Polish patrol.
